"How Water Gets to You" is
a Pepper's Ghost exhibit at the Center for Water Education
in Hemet, Ca. The Pepper's technique is best known at
Disney's Haunted Mansion, where translucent ghosts dance
in a ballroom; In a "Pepper's" exhibit, a series
of carefully positioned screens, projections, and half-silvered
mirrors work together to create a ghostly image that
seems to float in a darkened set. Most of the time "Pepper's" is
about making ghosts appear. In our case, Hydro, a character
we developed, floats over a miniature California landscape.
He points out the infrastructure of a large water system
as it materializes out of thin air, starting with dams
and canals, and then moving to filtration plants and
water pipes, that move and distribute water, from Sierra
snow melt to homes and businesses. |
