Meet May Hutton, suffragist,
philanthropist, miner’s wife, and entrepreneur,
at the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture in Spokane,
Washington.
At a time when the feminine ideal was the "angel of the house,” May
Hutton was an avenging angel outside the house. A powerful
woman who had the courage to play it straight, she occasionally
wore men's clothing, expressed her opinions freely, and advocated
equality for women in an age when the notion was laughable.
“May Hutton” is one of four interactive programs produced by Harvest
Moon Studio for Formations, Inc., of Portland, Oregon. |
